My machine hp6633c about 5 years old says 256 max RAM. Is more than 256 better? Have 192 now, is worth the troble and expense to kick up to 256. Thanks.

it is definetely worth it, i had 128, and i upgraded, it went much faster, its also a really good idea to reformat your hard drive after you upgrade your ram, your computer will go superfast.

It really depends upon how many applications you have running in the background. The more applications you have running, the more memory is needed. If the system runs out of memory it has to start paging in and out from the page file (hard drive). That slows things down.
Since you are limited in how much RAM you can have, Trimming up your system by eliminating unnecessary programs from running all the time, will help a lot.

There is old saying,,"if it aint broke dont fix it", Memory upgrades are problematic, there are many versions, many models, many speeds CAS 2 , CAS 3, ect, Kingston has a complete guide to ram, its worth reading, unless your using your system for demanding ram applications, the costs can exceed the benefits, plus, the resale value of the old ram, is very poor.
