I've just downloaded a memory test program, as I'm getting a intermittent no boot problem.
it needs to know my free ram, not wanting to sound thick but how do i find this out??.

One way is to go to the command prompt (Start, Run, type CMD, enter) and type mem /c. This tells you a lot including free ram.

I'm surprised your program asks for this. If it's any good, it should know already.

The prgramme is probably designed to run under DOS. I would be very suprised if it worked under XP.

Any figure that you come up with, even is DOS, is not going to be 100% accurate as what constitutes free RAM can vary depending on who's asking and for what purpose.

Are you sure its not asking for total RAM. Any memory checker that cannot work out what RAM is free and what is in use is likely to overwrite stuff that isn't.

If you run disk defrag it show the percentage of free ram and i think it shows the mbs too. don't know if this will help you. i got freeramxp pro 1.40 from the download section of pcworld.com and installed it (freeware). it shows the mb of free ram and the percentage. good luck.

i want to know how to fix the leaky memory in xp. my display settings won't stay after a reboot. they always revert to a previous setting. drives me freekin nuts!
