Hello,
I had 64 MB of RAM on my notebook. I decided to buy more. Im running a dell laptop. I went to the store and brought a stick of memory that has 256MB made by Kingston. I put both of them in and started up my computer. A message came up saying that there is no the expected memory in the computer, decreasing memory. Windows still started up. So after a while I decided to restart the computer to see if it would happen again. Then this message comes up saying that the system32\drivers\pci.sys is corrupt or missing. It said use the windows xp repair to fix. I did that.. And the disk wouldn't even boot up. Took out the 256MB and the disk did boot up and I didn't have the missing file message. Is there a way for the memory to work? It is 256MB value ram. Also, I can not just leave the 256MB in there. It has to be in with the 64MB or not in at all. Thank you

It may be that your notebook cannot cope with that ammount of ram. If you have a booklet that came with your notebook with the subject being the motherboard, I suggest that you have a look in a general specifications section under ram. Eg. I have 512MB ram, and have found out that the maximum I can have is 1GB. Your notebook may only support up to 128MB.

Do you think I would be able to trade in my 256MB for 128MG from the same company?

And another thing.. If my laptop cannot support that much memory why doesn't it run with just the 256 in it. It needs the 64 to run?
