I am fixing a computer with a few problems and i have run into problem that i can't work out.
His computer has cbecome very slow (booting windows takes for ages) the problem i have come across is that on the start up when is does the memory cheak it detects 256 mb ram and the ram in the computer is 256 mb ram but in windows it only detects 196 mb ram.
Any ideas and could it be that the memory is damaged

well no as i have just reinstalled windows onto a new hard disk for him and i have installed anda internet security which is ment to be really good at detecting those sort of problems
And about the shared mamory, i didn't think of that he is using onboard graphics adapter so that could be the cause maybe

ya 64 mb sure sounds like 64mbs of that 256 is for onboard video, you can adjust the size in bios, or get some more ram...when in doubt get more ram
