Been trying to find information on this forever, and I'm hoping someone can help me out with this one because I'm completely confused at this point.

Brief history: out of the blue (this was some time after I started running XP), I started to get a ton of BSoDs on boot-up with XP. Most common one was a bad_config_info but I would get everything to bad_pool_caller to IRQL_not_matched. I could list all the errors, but I don't have my list with me right now. I immediately thought a memory problem. I had 2 generic 256meg sticks in my system, so I went ahead and bought a Micron 512meg stick and put it in. System worked fine for a day or so and then the errors came back. Next step I replaced the motherboard with another ASUS TUSL-2C (emergency repair and this was the best the local store had, so I went with it even though the previous TUSL-2C was giving me problems). Again, the problems continued. Throughout this time I'd gone through multiple HD formats/OS loads (using Win98, 2000, and XP) and the problems always continued in one form or another). Still suspected memory. So I've done a ton of playing with all the different sticks of memory I had (the 512meg Micron, and the 2 256meg generics) and tried different combinations in each of the memory slots (512 in each slot, and then the 2 256s in various slots and each of the 256s by themselves in each slot). Problems always continued. Since everything still appeared to be memory-related, a friend of mine lent me some memory from an extra machine of his (a 256meg stick and a 128meg stick). Machine has worked fine for over a month with it). Since the Micron 512meg stick was still under warranty, I exchanged that as a bad stick. Put the new 512meg stick in and the system ran fine for about 4 days and the bad_config_info BSoD came back on boot-up. Put my friend's memory back in and things are working fine. And, as a side note, he's tried my various suspected bad memory sticks in his extra machine and doesn't get a single error.

So, as you can guess, at this time I am completely perplexed. I can't figure out where to turn with this thing. The board is supposed to handle 512meg memory, yet it failed out with a single 512meg stick and 2 256meg sticks. But then it also failed with a single 256meg stick as well which doesn't appear to be bad. And I have had this happen with 2 ASUS TUSL-2C boards that have been purchased more than a year apart (and even had different BIOS versions on them when I bought them... have upgraded the BIOS when needed) so it can't have been a bad batch from the factory or something. I just don't know what is going on here. If anyone has experienced anything like this, or can suggest anything to try, please let me know. This has been an ongoing problem since November and I am completely exhausted from working on it so much.

Thanks for any help!

Try pulling out all non-essential cards (everything but the graphic card). Also, disconnect the power to all disk drives (including the HD) other than your FD. Reboot your pc with the boot disk in place. If the computer crashes after booting this way, the problem must lie in either the motherboard or the graphics adapter.

You can use a working computer to test your graphics adapter (video card).

If the pc didn’t crash, turn off the pc and reconnect the power to your HD. Turn the pc back on; ignore any messages you may get about missing hardware. If the system crashes at this point, then the problem most likely involves your HD. If the pc works with the HD, add the other hardware components back, one at a time. Remember to turn off the computer each time before making a change, and then test each addition before going on to the next one. This single-step approach takes a lot of time, but it is the only way to be certain you have eliminated a component as a possible cause of the problems.

Sometimes the MBo is defective and you need to exchange it for a different one.

Hope this helps. Bye

I should have mentioned I've taken all those steps. I have swapped every piece of hardware at one point or another. Different PSU... different case.... different CD/DVD drives. I've been down to the absolute minimum and with any of my memory, the problems continued. I don't have another video card to try and I'd hate to buy a new one since I don't believe that's the problem. To me, it seems to be something related to the memory itself. I've done extensive t-shooting for the past 8 months and I've come down to it being something memory related and this particular mobo, but I can't figure out what. Every other piece of hardware has been replaced or removed, excluding the video card, which I don't suspect because it works fine and if there was a problem with the video card, why wouldn't it manifest itself with the 256+128 sticks installed? Here's some quick specs if it helps any:

mobo: ASUS TUSL-2C (tried two different boards)
pro: Celeron 1300
NIC: tried different nics... using a 3Com one now
sound: SBLive value
video: Prophet2 GTS (64)
memory:
- 256 + 128 borrowed from a friend (unknown brand) no problems with this memory combination at all in my machine or in others
- 512 Micron - fails in my machine, works fine in others (non-TUSL)
- 256 + 256 generic - fails in my machine, works fine in other (non-TUSL)
- each 256 seperately - fails in my machine, works fine in others (non-TUSL)
