For a while now, whenever i try to watch a movie using any media player, my computer instantly crashes to a blue screen which displays this error message:

*** Hardware Malfunction
Call your hardware vender for support
NMI: Parity Check/Memory Parity Error
*** The system has halted ***

Occasionally, it will do this during games like Unreal Tournament 2004 while im playing. I haven't been able to get to the bottom of this, so anyone who has any ideas please let me know!

Do you have any ECC memory chips in your system? Are all your memory chips same type/speed??

You can try to go to BIOS settings and disable parity check if it is available.

Rule #1 Good computers don't go down.
Rule #2 There is no such thing as a good computer.

I'm sorry, im not an extremely advanced computer user! ECC memory chips? I don't know what those are. Also, how do i access the BIOS settings, and more importantly, what is a "parity check?". Thanks for your help!

Sounds like a ram failure. NMI stands for non maskable interrupt which means the system experienced a error it wasn't able to recover from. This is hardware failure.

I would not change your bios settings.

My suggestion would be to either pull the ram stick that was added or take it into the shop for further diagnostics.
