My computer was resarting so I changed the settings so it wouldn't automaticly restart and it did a memory dump. Here is the error message: *** STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x00132fff, 0xEPPP5b868, 0x00000000)
I run SpyBot S&D and have no spy ware, Norton Internet Security is installed, but when I try to run a virus scan it restarts or memory dumps. It also restarts/memory dumps whenever it feels like it. Could it be a problme with my graphics card?

alot of the time this is caused by drivers, have you looke din your event logs? Has there been any new hardware added lately or updated any drivers?

what does the rest of the error say. Microsoft has a list of tons of these error messages. Does this ONLY happen when you run a virus scan? do you have windows xp serivce pack 2 installed and all os updates?

It is best to do your scans in Windows Safe-Mode.

Description of the Safe Mode Boot Options in Windows XP
See if it works there. You could go here:
KNOWLEDGE BASE LINKS STOP MESSAGES
Then click 8E at the left or right hand side of that page.

Perhaps the right path to solve this issue is uninstall Norton. Sounds like a corrupt install of Norton. See if after the uninstall you continue to dump.

Boot into RECOVERY CONSOLE (hold down f8 while machine boots and it goves you an option screen, recovery console is one of those.
Then type
Chkdsk /r
Let it repair. My wife's machine had same problem, namely 0xC0000005 error.

I dont know how to look in my event logs. I had problems with the graphics card driver Microsoft Update told me to use, so I deleted them and downloaded the ones ATI told me to use . These didn't work either, so I'm running it without any graphics card drivers. It will restart when I'm surfing the net, burning cd's
or whatever, there isn't any patern. This is all the error says. It still restarts in safe
mode and I couldn't get into the Recovery Console.
