Media Player not playing DVD anymor

I've been trying to resolve several issues lately

WORD acting up with various nag screens in and out (Opening and closing), sudden shut downs while in use, ....

i've removed all unused programs from the machine and all previous updates to OS, reloaded the updates, reinstalled WORD (and yes it works now) and removed Adobe Acrobat Reader and reinstalled the current version to get rid of a nag dialogue that was appearing upon start up / opening of Reader

the Adobe ACrobat REader works now

I've removed and reinstalled and updated the Media Player


now, The Windows media player is playing audio files (MP3) but not DVDs


Have i removed something i shouldn't have?

I just downloaded iTunes software/iTune Player/QuickTime Player

It doesn't have to be this difficult
