I am trying to play an MP3 file, which I created, on Windows Media Player (updated version). But, when I do, I get a message that says "The import media format is invalid. Fair enough, but I can play the same file using Real Player or other MP3 players. Can anyone give me a clue as to why this would be? Thanks a lot.

In WMP - Tools\Options - File Types Tab - do you have MP3 checked in there?

Try downloading Winamp
www.winamp.com

Much better at playing MP3 and isn't resource hungry unlike Media Player

I guess great minds think alike. Just before I came back to this page and saw your response, I did just that. I also found out that Winamp is great for fixing those invalid format problems. The file now plays fine in WMP as well.

Below are detailed instructions on how to fix the problem. Thanks for everyone's help! This forum is wonderful!!

A quick way to clean up the file is to open the file up in WinAMP 2.x, right-click on the file in the Playlist window, choose "File Info" and uncheck ID3v1 tag and ID3v2 tag, then click Update. The file should then work fine in WMP.
