I have Windows Media Player 8 and I can't get any AVI files to play. Does anyone know how I can get these files to play? I've tried updating the player but that doesn't work. When I try to play them I get an error message that says "Cannot play back the file. This format is not supported." Could someone please help me.

Thanks

Open Media Player - Tools\Options - File Types - make sure there's a check in Audio and Video Files

You just need the right codec to play the file. Usually getting DivX from www.Divx.com will solve the problem.

If you want a quick way to try a bunch of possible codecs, grab NIMO at http://www.btinternet.com/~nimosiro/ and download the codec pack there. That should cover almost all possible codec types.
