I recently upgraded from Media Player 8 to 9 but now my .wmv and .asf movie files "blink" when they play. Audio is fine. I have all the latest codecs and all the latest drivers for my computer. All other media files play fine. It's too late to use XP System Restore to go back to Media Player 8.

Any ideas?

Your videocard is probably too old, can you borrow some friends and see if it works?

-----if the problem isnt solved------
Does WinAmp play the files?

Does Creative MediaSource Play the files?

My media player wouldn't play files correctly either. Either that or it would play them upside down. I downloaded and installed a program from www.download.com called SLD Codec Pack. It makes sure that you have absolutley every codec and selects the one your player needs when you play a file. That's my guess.

Huh????

That video card should have absolutely no problem running .asf or .wmv files!

My poor misguided friend windows media is for fools that accept anything that comes from the seattle monster.

search cnet.com for divx players and get the mv2 player and do your best to get rid of that s---e player (good luck the computer nazi's won't let windows media be deleted completely from windows)

I upgraded to the WMP 9 and when it s--- the bed it set itself up so that the restore point was useless (way to go Hitler)I went searching for a player and believe me you want this one . It comes with every codec on earth it plays any video i throw at it and it has brightness, contrast and saturation controls built into the player that are extremely easy to use.

for audio use musicmatch or real player jukebox if you don't like mm winamp isn't bad but it doesn't have alot features the afforementioned do. Having two different programs for audio/video may not make sense to you now but try it and you'll see what i'm talking about

Protoman,

I installed the SLD Codec Pack, but couldn't figure out how to integrate it with Media Player 9 (unless it does it automatically). After installing it, I still had the same problem with .wmv and .asf files in Media Player 9. However, the SLD Codec Pack comes with Media Player 2 (remember that one?!) which plays the files fine. This will be a good, temporary solution.

As for Dave's suggestion re: mv2. What a sh**ty player. Thanks anyway.
