Alright guys I've been having this issue with WMP (on xp32) for quite some time and haven't been able to find a resolution for it and hope maybe one of you can help.

Basically, whenever I push the play button to play videos in my playlist, the program locks up, it gives the "program not responding" message, hard drive is being accessed like crazy for about 15-25 seconds before the player regains functionality and plays normally.

This is really annoying. I was thinking it had something to do with the fact the drive it is accessing is a 2TB unpartitioned one. It's always defragged and has no mechanical issues. But Im suspecting its a software issue as my other PC seems to do this, though not as bad, when many videos are qued in the playlist as well.

I also have a long playlist dating from about 3 months back with a couple hundred vids, though it did the same thing with small playlists as well.

I've updated to the latest k-lite mega pack as well.

Also went into C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player
and noticed there were a couple large files in there named CurrentDatabase_219 and CurrentDatabase_360. I havent deleted them as i dont know what they do and don't want to mess up my playlist.
There was a huge (like almost half a gig) text or rich text file I deleted a month back but that didn't help the problem.

WMP V.11.0.5721.5280

Any help is appreciated

Have you tried downloading codecs or reinstalling the media player?

I am a hardware guy not a software guy but i try to help.

✔ Best Answer
So I found the issue was due to having a large video playlist, a lot of high def content.
