CPU/Ram: P4 2.6gHz / Possibly 256m
Comment:

I have perchased 5 workstations loaded with WinXP MCE, two are showing the follow error periodically and during startup:

Media Center Host Module Has encountered an error... (It seems ehRec.exe has been malfunctioning--After doing some resource, it looks like ehRec.exe is a system program and impossible to stop from starting during boot. I've only found one similiar problem on the internet and the fix was an updated TV Tuner Driver, but these workstations do not have a tv tuner.)

All software were installed at the shop, but the error only appeared onsite, without any software changes--the only change was an upgrade from wireless router to wireless router w/ g-burst.

The software installed (that i can think of atm) are:

Some CD-Writer
PowerDVD
WordPerfect 11
Norton AntiVirus 2004
Black Ice Firewall CNK
All MS Windows Updates

Any help on resolving this error would be greatly appreciated.

Warm Regards,
Gian Spicuzza

Gian: two ideas;

1. MCE 2004 critical update in downloads section of xpmce;
one source uninstalled it, then everything went back to normal.

if MCE is still crashing (and you've merged in my new registry entries above), you should have an event log in the "Media Center" category within your Event Log viewer.
if you don't, or it doesn't provide useful information, you can dig into ehshell.crash in the same directory as the executable.

let us know what worked for you...
