I formatted my HD several weeks ago and I am having a problem with the Media Center.
Ever since I formatted, it keeps telling me that the DVD decoder is missing when I try to watch a DVD. I have never had that problem before the format and I have searched all over Microsoft's site to see how I can get a decoder. I am currently using CyberLink to watch DVD's, but do not care for it as I do for Media Center. *I don't know if it will give me the same error message for listening/burning cd's cause I just closed out of it when I got the error and didn't mess with it anymore. But, as I said, I really like Media Center better and want it to work properly.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get the right decoder for Media Center? Is there one specific for that?
Thanks to anyone that replies...

the folks at microsoft do not care for their customers as they care for themselves. to avoid paying royalties, microsoft does not offer a dvd codec.
however, once you have cyberlink powerdvd installed, a dvd codec is in place and should do the trick.
alternatively, you can also purchase the NVIDIA PureVideo Decoder (a plugin for Microsoft Windows Media Player and Media Center Edition that enables smooth and vibrant videos). You can download a 30-day free trial ($19.95 to purchase).

to verify if there is in fact a video decoder installed on your system, use the Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility provided by microsoft.

note: this download requires WGA!
