To those of you who replied to my 1st post Thank you!! Now I have a different problem. My friend found my XP Recovery CD, I chose to repair my installation..It tells me the password for Administrator is invalid. I know it's not. So I tried using my husband's since he has administrative rights also, and it won't accept his either. Any suggestions as to what I can do? There's no question as to the passwords being incorrect, or not. They are... Thanks a bunch!!

If you are booting from the XP CD, why do you need the password. I'm guessing you are already in Windows.

The "Administrator" password is not the personal password of any particular user even though they may have Admin privileges. The password you need is for the Administrator Account and if it isn't blank, was set during the original instal of windows. Try logging in with a blank password and see what happens.

I believe a recovery CD will erase your precious data - it depends on where you put it. If it's in "My Documents", you may be in trouble. The best thing to do would be to temporarily install your HDD in another computer as the slave, then move your data to the other HDD. Or if the other PC has a burner, transfer your data to a disc instead. If your stuff is indeed "precious", you should have been backing it up a long time ago.

Hi again AeroAngel. Once again, given the sentimental value of the data, I would slave the HD to another machine and copy the data before messing around with repair.
Good luck.
