Comment:

I have just recently installed Windows XP MCE 2005 and I have a few issues:

1. The installation CD's are XP Pro, with 1 CD that updates the system to MCE 05. However, the MCE 05 CD will not install its components; every time I attempt to do so it gives me an error message.

2. I have updated my VGA's drivers, I have MPEG2Decoder installed, and yet when I play a MS-DVR (I think that's the file type for recorded programs), they'll play for a little while and then all of a sudden get stuck in 1 spot and sound like a broken record. THEN, my PC freezes all together.

Now, I know I have the PC power to run all of these functions. I just don't know why it is acting up. Is there a set of drivers I forgot to download somewhere? Because if there are, my MCE CD isn't letting me install them for some reason.

What version of WinXP pro is on the install CD?

Is that the way you installed MCE in the past? Seems to be some type of hack.

Hhmmm, I really hope it isn't a hack. It's an official retail-purchased package. I check on My Computer and it says MCE 2002, whereas the CD I have says 2005 (the one that won't let me install its components).

I only know that MCE doesn't have all the features of WinXP pro. So I don't understand how that would work.

Possibly someone else can help.
