Comment:

I used to run Spybot and AdAware regularly, but then my McAfee virus program stopped working. McAfee told me that they are incompatible with their system and I would have to uninstall them. This was several months ago.

I miss scanning my system for spyware, and am concerned that it is building up. Can I just download these programs, scan and quickly uninstall when it is done? Will this mess up my anti-virus? It was a huge deal to get it back and I don't want to go through that again.

Also, is this legitimate, or is McAfee just trying to get me to buy their spyware program?

Vicky

The latter. Dump McAfee and get AVG or Avast. They're free.

McAfee is worse than nothing at all.

I use NOD32. It's a paid program, but I've never had a problem with it.

Avast or AVG are better in the long run than McAfee.

Go back to running Spybot and AdAware and dump McAfee and remove it completely from your system.

Coming home from very lonely places, all of us go a little mad: whether from great personal success, or just an all-night drive, we are the sole survivors of a world no one else has ever seen.

Yes they work and they are completely free - nothing to buy.

Trust me - Nod32, AVG, Avast will not tell you that you have to do without Spybot S$D & Adaware. Only McAfee & Symantec does it - they dislike working side by side with their competitors.

Having two anti-virus pragrams usually causes a conflict between them and sees each other as I virus so I would use only one program. I use Kaspersky and it does very well for me and has the fastest updates of all other anti-virus programs as to date. It covers all the needed protection you will need for adware ect.
