Help! Every few minutes, I hear the error sound. In checking Task Manager, there are MANY instances of "McAfee SiteAdvisor Install - Failure". I keep deleting them, but they keep on coming. Every hour or so, I get an actual error message with the sound, saying something like "Unable to open SiteAdvisor installer" (not exact wording).

Besides that, under Processes, there are literally hundreds of entries called "SiteAdv.exe HPOwner 00 1,276K" (the last number varies from 1,268 to 1,280).

I was afraid to try to delete these, due to a scary warning, but I finally decided that I needed to. I had 500+ processes running, and got it down to 300. Now, it is back up to 535.

In addition, my computer is running very slowly, and the CPU usage keeps going up to 100%, where it is right now. PF usage is about 800. I don't know where this should be.

I tried going to McAfee, to see if I could either install this SiteAdvisor or stop it, but can't figure out how. I also did not find a place to ask a question there. It does say that I am being protected by SiteAdvisor.

I am somewhat familiar with this computer, but any answers will have to be in plain English, as I am a bit technology-challenged! Thank for any help.

PS---My IncrediMail will not open. Could that be a part of this problem?

I should add that, for a couple of months now, this computer has been randomly shutting off. I can't see any pattern to it. I turn it back on, and it works fine, until the next time. It happens a couple of times a day.

Could this be connected?

Are you currently using any McAfee AV?

Yes. I have VirusScan, SecurityCenter, Personal Firewall and SiteAdvisor.

When I shut down the computer for several hours and turn it back on,the errors under Applications and the extra processes disappear, but as soon as I turn it back on, they start building up again.

It's a service from McAfee that warns you if a site you are visiting is suspicious. It came with the virus protection. Should I try to uninstall it?

I am having exact problem, found partial solution. Ran System Restore to a date few weeks ago, before problem. That was evidently unsuccessful, saying no changes were made, but then my McAfee began popping up saying that it was blocking Trojans called "downloader-BEW". Now I have no more nasty little processes running nor "mcafee site advisor install failure" applications showing on Task Manager. AOL and itunes software still screwed up. Good luck & let me know if you find any better solution.

My experience is much like STBJAB's. I would suggest vickybarrios not wait for the Trojan message and run a proactive total McAfee virus scan right away. Running the scan and removing the problem file(s) seems to have completely cleaned up the problem. It's interesting to note that our issue started last Saturday or Sunday morning. That seems to coincide with the timing on the start of vickybarrios's issue, too.
