Maxtor hard drive problem

CPU/Ram: amd 2000+ 512 mb ram

I have 3 hard drives and 2 of them on my ide expansion card. Im runing widows xp sp2. I have a ecs/elitegroup k7 pro. When the checkdisk runes it sais the 2nd boot sector is unritable. I cannot move anything on the hard drive when it is more then 30 gb full. windows does see its a 60 gb drive. This is now the second time it has happened and the first time it needed ti bo reformated so i lost all my info. What can i do can upgrading my cmos and bios help ???
