Hi, I have searched with all sorts of word combinations for this question. Is there a limit on the size of a folder in XP? For instance, a limit to how many photos(in gb) can a folder handle without becoming unstable. Bluejay

Thanks for the quick response. I have sp1 on my machine, and am a bit confused by your answer as I don't know what Bag MRU size is. Do you mean that a folder can hold lets say 5000 photos regardless of the gb size? Bluejay

BAGMru is a value component in Windows registry that sets in place the maximum number of files that Windows must remember before it begin to forget. There is no limit on the size of files itself (why GBs??)

The reason I mention gb is that I thought maybe the "size" of the folder as in disk usage was the determining factor. For example: a folder can hold 2gb of data. But I gather you mean "items" as in number of photos lets say. Bluejay

The file size is determined by the file system you use. If it is FAT32, the maximum you can safely place on the HD is just under 4GB. Under NTFS there is no limit AFAIK.

I use NTFS. Thank you very much for the education. Now I don't have to worry about how many photos I put in one folder. Bluejay
