By default it s 4G, if you want more go here to learn how to manually change the settings:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;888855
Now all you have to do is find a motherboard that allows you to do this.

A quick search of maximum amount of ram supported by xp on google yielded multiple links. The second one from the top answered the question succintly.
