I am running Window XP with service pack 2. My current drive is 60gb 5400 rpm ATA/100. I want a larger faster drive, such as a 500mb 7200rpm, but wonder if my system can handle that many mb's of size.
First I think you meant 500 GB rather than 500 MB. The Acer Aspire 3000 series does NOT support 48bit LBA due to both the motherboard and BIOS not being 48 Bit LBA capable.
This means you are limited to hard sizes no greater than 137GB. The common largest size below this limit is 120GB.

Yes, I did mean gb not mb. Thanks so much for your help. After reviewing the information you suggested, I am convinced that to avoid problems, the 128bg drive is the one for me.
