I received a file with a .max extension and don't know how to open it.I have tried several programs,but no luck.All I know,that it is a scanned file.Hopefully somebody can help me out and I thank you in advance!

Matthew, It most probably is a PaperPort Scanned Image file. You can check out the info at the link below.
