How do you repair the master file table in Windows XP. I get the following error message when trying to Ghost my computer from the DOS prompt at bootup: "NTFS Error: error reading file_volume MFT record."

error reading does not mean it needs to be repaired.

This usually indicates the Ghost software you are using is too old to recognize ntfs.

ALWAYS before ghosting run chkdsk /f, run disk cleanup and defrag the drive.

This is assuming you are malware/virus free [and that you checked that]

Thanks for the good information. I'll do those things and then try the ghost program again. It is new enough to recognize NTFS.

Thanks,
