Hi,
Im not very tech savvy but this is irksome.
All of a sudden my wired broadband connection is behaving abnormal. My PC works fine if I keep the wire unplugged.
The sequence of events is as follows:1. I boot my PC and suddenly get a message that Windows will shutdown in 60 seconds as the file C:\windows\system32\lsass.exe got corrupted.
2. I select "take no action" for all the 3 options in the RPC service and then reboot.
3. I try to open my homepage and it opens very slow and finally says "page cannot be displayed" although I see many packets being sent!! I try to do netstat and see many syn_sent entries appearing. It had microsoft-ds mentioned in each of them, some had emap. Also all the IPs that I were from the same gateway as mine.4. I do a fixsasser...run Norton anti-virus...did it twice...still no virus found.
5. I reformat my C drive and reinstall winXP-SP2 wih the network cable unplugged, setup norton AV and finally when I connect the network cable...the same thing...also then I tried to connect to dialup and again the same!!
6. Is it that the server to which Im connected is having issues?...as it happens only when I plug my network cable.Hope I find a solution....as living without Internet for a day is like starving..:(

Ok this is the web page you want to see, it is a worm, I have had it before and couldn't get rid of it until I downloaded the fix at this site.

hi,
do you have a firewall??if not most times within seconds the computer gets infected with some kinda critter even without visiting any websites.and run windowsupdate.
keltik

If you were doing Windows Updates regularly, this would have been avoided.
How old is your Norton Antivirus program and are you still updating the definitions regularly?

Thx for ur responses...Ive checked the system for sasser and didnt find any. Im using the windows Xp firewall..I am trying to get the Sygate firewall setup. Ive always used the WinXP default firewall and didnt have any issues. The creepy thing is that it works fine when the wire is unplugged and the moment i plug it in...I see the LAN icon on righthand side bottom with both the blue screens glowing constantly and too many packets sent. Ive called my tech support and all they told is install a good AV..ive tried that so I guess Sygate might be my rescue..still lookin for it.

Im using the Norton AV 2005..the corporate version. well I didnt update the windows as I thought SP2 was ok. But now I had everything removed...a clean format and reinstalled XP but its the same thing, working fine when not connected and blunder when wire plugged in. Also my connection gets active only when I enter my user authentication for my broadband(homepage is the login page)...but the issue pops up the moment i plug the wire...even before I enter my User ID n stuff. Is there a chance that some other PC on LAN is infected and sending out bad packets to others in LAN.
Happy Computing!
