hi i recently was getting errors with my installshield when installing a game. Please dont bother to offer help on that situation i have tried everything out on the web to fix it and nothing has helped it.
On the cd there is the setup.exe and an .msi file. The .msi file (to install the game) won't run alone, it says setup.exe needs to be ran instead. I also have the .cab file for all the data. However i am not sure how i could install this manually (without having to run setup.exe)
The cd is not corrupt b/c i was able to install it on a different win Xp computer. Is there a way to manually extract/ install the game or to bypass the setup.exe and have the .msi run and install the game?
If i cant do that, what should i do about this setup.exe and the 1608 error that wont be fixed?
thanks

thanks but the only reason why i was over thinking this was because i went through all of that!! and i went through another guide similar to that!
i copied over the entire folder of install shield that i had on the pc that the install worked and i still got the error, when i ran the install in safe mode i got a 1607 error.
one thing i didn't mention before was that its a 1608 error with -2147024882 right after the message... i dunno if these numbers mean anything
seein as that stuff didnt work for me i was tryin to get around install shield, although i am really puzzeled as to why install shield won't work...

I'm assuming you have SP2 installed... I have had a similar problem with a friends laptop. And as a result I've scoured the internet in search of a fix to the problem, Microsoft acknowledge there is a problem but offer no definative solution to the problem... the solution I found that works is to simply uninstall SP2, and then retry...
I'm still trying to figure out if SP2 solves more problems than it creates.
Hope this helps!

yes thank you, i too have just found that it is most likley caused by sp2, however i have gone the long route and simply copied the program folder and the registry entrys from my other computer and am transferring them here, if this doesnt work then i will try uninstallin SP2...
however in an attempts to fix this problem i unregistered msiexec and when i tried to re-register it again i receive an error message 'incorrect function'... now .msi files will not open, i looked all over microsofts site but they only offer windows installer for systems other than xp, how can i try to fix this windows installer problem? i will look to the wed shortly, after dealing with this problem...
anyway thanks, ill let you know how it works out
