making a usb hdd write enabled

Specs: Windows XP
i have a 250 usb hdd drive i have avirus on it.it is the auto run virus.i have got aprog. to fix this problem but i found the prog. telling me that before using the prog. any usb flash disk or floppy disks must be write enabled during the scanning process......so my question ppl is how to make the hdd write enabled ?(iam using win xp and the hdd is ntfs)

It has nothing to do with the harddrive that is usb connected. The thing was talking about a thumb or flash drive or a floppy disk. the USB harddrive should already have write caching enabled or you would not be able to write to it.

Now if the virus disabled the drive then you need to re-enable it.

How to Enable Write access for USB

* Go to Run
* Type regedit and enter
* Goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies
* Double Click on WriteProtect”=dword:00000001 and change the Value of 1 to “0″(zero)

Zero - To enable Write access

One - To disable Write access for USB drive
