I've found ClearType a worthwhile improvement for LCD monitors but most of the rest looks like eye candy.

I do not see a difference between the "ClearType" in XP & the one in Vista.

Yeah, you've made me look again at ClearType...
Initially I felt I was able to make a marginal improvement when I downloaded that Power Toy some time back. It introduces a ClearType Tuning applet, which enables you to tweak it to compromise between clarity, contrast and bleeding between characters.
However, I have to admit that the real improvement was by invoking XP's built in ClearType in the first place.
