Solved Make an image of your operating system

Can anybody recommend a reliable free operating system image creator?

Something that will make an image of a computer's operating system partition to store on another partition on the same hard drive.

Something other than the Acronis utility provided by hard drive manufacturers.

Thanks rider!

That was great reading material.

Sorry about my post not mentioning that I was looking for offline software; I just assumed that with such large hard drives today that it would be more sensible to backup offline rather online.

I like "SelfImage", as far as I know, it's the only one with the ability to make an image of the disk that the host os is running on, hence the name.

It's also free.

Your first post clearly states you want to store a backup image on another partition on your internal hard drive.

I am not sure if that is what you actually want to do but I would recommend against it. If the hard drive dies, your image goes with it.
