Howdy, Go to My Computer, Right Click on the 3 1/2 inch floppy and choose format. There is an option there to make the disk bootable.

Laters,

Unfortunately,i cannot fin a bootable option by clicking right on 3 1/2 drive..i can only see format and few others selections like NTS or FAT,but nothing like boot..
As regard to habrynth help..tks a lot but what they refer to is the 5 floppy to boot Win Xp..which i do not need..I even try to include a command com file in the floppy but it does not help..I am depressed..must be a simple way

Go to www.bootdisk.com to get boot disks for various flavours of Windows and DOS.
Even one designed for BIOS flashing.

In regards to the boot disks you need 5 to install the setup for xp. If you played with nt or 2000 you would understand. If xp is on cd make it a bootable. Recently I made one for xp cleaned my laptop no o/s no bootfiles nothing stuck in disk a line came up that said boot from cd I did. If you can burn a copy that would be the easiest way. The boot.ini and instuctions can be found at windowsxp.nu.
Good Luck!

there is no boot disk option, just right click on floppy, then click format,
and in the format window tick create an ms-dos start up disk

that's it!

Download
FOR WIN XP PROFESSIONAL
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/310994/WIN98MeXP/EN-US/WinXP_EN_PRO_BF.EXE
FOR WIN XP HOME EDITION
http://download.microsoft.com/download/WinXPHome/Install/310994/WIN98MeXP/EN-US/WinXP_EN_HOM_BF.EXE

Windows XP Home Edition startup disks will not work for Windows XP Professional installations and vice-versa.
You will need 6 empty formatted (FAT) floppy disk. Insert in your floppy drive and follow the programs instructions.
