Major sound problems

I can't hear my starup sounds or anything on websites flash/etc. I am having trouble with sound on AIM too, but i can hear my music on winamp and kazaa.
Mobo: aopen AK79D-400vd nforce

Just a thought; Contol Panel, Sounds + Audio icon, Volume tab, Advanced tab: uncheck all muted selections, particularly "Wave".

Next:

In IE; Tools, Internet Options, Advanced tab, scroll down to Multimedia: put a check in "Play Sounds in Web Pages".

lol thx for the tips, but this is a major problem. I had all those options as followed already. I believe it may be in the codec or sound drivers
