Ok, I have a major registry problem, and have no idea how this happened.
Problem 1: I type regedit into the run box on the start menu and get:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\regedit.pif
Invalid program file name, please check your pif file. Choose 'Close to terminate the application. Now I look, and there is no such pif file, and I don't think there is supposed to be. I have a MS-DOS shortcut called regedit which points to C:\WINDOWS\system32\regedit.exe which does not exist.
Problem 2: If I double click the MS-DOS shortcut, I get the same error as before, except pif in the file name is capitalized.
I also have a regedit32.exe, which double clicking that takes me to the registry, no problem. I've tried renaming it to just regedit.exe, but it is still the same errors with all shortcuts.
Problem 3: I try to double click a .reg file to merge it with the registry and I get:
Can't import filename.reg: Error accessing the registry
Now, I know the registry is accessible, I just think I have files or command lines wrong or something. Anyone who can give me any insight will be apprecitated.
Thanks,
Josh

tweaks and peaks and working within the registry with out backing up to fall back on.
Not to sound rude or anything Josh, But this is exactly why you don't do anything to the registry without first backing it up and then backing it up on a regular basis if you use the tweaks that people suggest all the time.
Not saying that this is your fault as files get corrupted all the time. But for someone to have multiple programs to use to get to regeditor and don't have a backup to fall back on......

Josh, Take your time and go thru the 6 page thread at the link below where someone else had that same regedit.pif file problem.
The link below may also be of some help under the "Solution" tab.
You may also want to go to the link below and download the Fixswen.inf file. Save the fixswen.inf file to your local hard disk, right-click on the file and choose install.Tufenuf

I also have a regedit32.exe, which double clicking that takes me to the registry, no problem. I've tried renaming it to just regedit.exe, but it is still the same errors with all shortcuts.
FYI
In Windows XP, Regedt32.exe is a small program that just runs Regedit.exe

I have it working, it was just a misplaced file, nothing to do with a corrupt registry or anything, thanks.

Actually I am mistaken, it did work the first time, but now when I attempt to run regedit from the start menu, it goes to the blue screen where it says I have an error and then you must shut off the computer and restart. It seems to work the first time after a restart, but the second always crashes the computer.
