OS: Windows XP Home Edition
CPU/Ram: Athlon XP 1900+ 256 mb
Comment:

I tried 3 different motherboards, different hardware, different ram, and everything else and whenever I do anything that involves audio or video about every 5 or 10 seconds it will stop and make a loud noise for about 2 seconds and will resume the audio or video. I updated the bios, reinstalled windows, and installed chipset service packs and everything. The motherboard is a Shuttle MK35VN, with a AMD Athlon XP 1900+. The hardware I have is all onboard except the Sound Blaster Live 5.1, and a PCTEL Modem. Is it just me or is hardware s---ty these days?

I really need help with this. It is very annoying when all I want to do is play a mp3 off the harddrive, or listen to a music cd. I even tryed different operating systems, and they all failed also, but in different ways. In 98 and me they would just make the computer turn off for no reason, and in 2000 it did the same thing as in XP. It does the same thing in all 3 motherboards and hardware. Please help me out with this very annoying problem. These are very good parts that I am using but the computer is still a piece of s---.

First your doing everything right, your trying to eliminate "things" as the problem. First if your MB has a sound card embedded make sure it is disabled, if your using a seperate pci sound card. second have you tried a different sound card than your soundblaster? And have you tried different speakers?

The only thing left is the cpu. You've changed everything else. Have you checked voltages from the power supply? I doubt that's the problem, though.

Dop you know anyone who has a cpu/mobo combo laying around that you might try to rule out anything else?

It is not the CPU, because I put in an identical one and it still did the same thing. I am thinking the ram is the wrong mhz. The ram installed is a 256mb 333mhz pc2700 domm. The guy that sold me the motherboard gave me that ram with it and I am suspecting that maybe it is the wrong speed ram. Is that the problem, because that is the only thing I have not replaced yet on this new motherboard??
