Madden 2004 gamepad problems

okay so i had been playing madden 2004 for a while before i built my new machine. I have always used the Nostromo n45 gamepad. But now, madden won't recognize it for some strange reason. and i can't find how to calibrate it in windows. i know where it SHOULD be (in the control panel under sound and game controllers). i see the device there, but there's no button or tab for 'general' which is where calibration is usually listed. Help!
