Hello,
I am hoping someone here will have the answer to a potentially heartbreaking problem.
I purchased my Macbook Pro last year with the intention of using it mainly with Windows XP Pro and OSX now and then for specific applications such as video editing and more.
A few months after use, I was getting the dreaded blue screen with a shutdown then restart. This continued randomly for a few months then I started to research why this was happening. I then carried out a full reinstall of Windows but this has not helped. I tried repairing permissions, updating boot camp and all drivers on the XP and OSX side. But no joy...
I called Apple support recently who directed me to my local service centre. The person I spoke to there said to me that there is a known issue with a sound driver on XP and OSX which causes this problem. He went on to say that they have not and will not release an updated driver to fix this. He said the only solution was to use Windows Vista as there have not been any issues with it.
The problem is that I do not want to upgrade to Vista as I am happy with XP and know all the inner workings of it.So do I go back to the retailer or Apple to complain that their statement of being able to run Windows operating system is wrong which should entitle me to a refund?
Or is there a known fix for this?I love my Macbook and would be sad to see it go. But I cannot take the random shutdowns anymore. Especially in the middle of an important task!!
Please help!!
Thank you.

Have you tried removing the audio driver and disabling the soundcard?

No I have not tried that.
Do you think this could be the cause of it because I do have a problem with the sound now and then. Sometimes when I boot up I do not have any sound at all.Could this be it??

You said "The person I spoke to there said to me that there is a known issue with a sound driver on XP and OSX which causes this problem."
That seems pretty definitive to me. Try that if you feel you can live without audio. :)

I didnt even spot that!!!
Silly me. I will now disable/uninstall the sound drivers and see if that helps. Thanks
