Just go to start/Run and type in "CMD" without the quotes.

At the command prompt type in "getmac" without the quotes and there you go.

You can also type "ipconfig /all" again without the quotes at the command prompt to display the MAC ID

Go to Start, Run, type CMD, enter. At the command prompt, type ipconfig /all. The physical address that comes up is the same as your MAC address.

If you're looking for something else, for instance, what business may belong to a particular MAC address, there are tools to do that. Do a Google search for MAC address.

The command, getmac isn't included with XP Home. My other Pc (Pro) is taking a nap right now. If you have XP Home, go here to download it from Microsoft (its a free tool)

Getmac.exe: GetMAC

File description:

GetMAC provides a quick method for obtaining the MAC (Ethernet) layer address and binding order for a computer running Windows 2000 (and XP), locally or across a network. This can be useful when you want to enter the address into a sniffer, or if you need to know what protocols are currently in use on a computer.

If a web site can probe your local pc for its mac address it means your network is wide open to hackers/worms/port exploits.

Hi wanderer,

Are you saying that if one use getmac, it would open the floodgate even if you have a router? I've never used getmac and wasn't even aware of its existence until KTTD mentioned something about it.

Why bother if you can get it from ipconfig /all?

Hey XpUser:

What I was saying is the author of the thread wants a web site he can go to so he can get his mac address. I am saying if a web site can do that then the author has no protection from internet attack. If a web site can read your ip, let alone your mac address, there is no nat or firewall in place.

That's like being dead meat and saying here I am to the buzzards :-)
