If you are among those that ended up with Device Manager not showing any devices and/or Network Connections not showing any network connections after you installed XP SP3, go HERE for the fix. The file is very small (64kb) and require no Windows Genuine Advantage validation check. Be sure you first read the supporting documente HERE before you do anything.

Good luck.

I see your second HERE link says the problem is caused by anti-virus software that is running doing something while SP3 is being installed.

Which one in your case?

This problem may occur when an antivirus application is running during the installation of Windows XP SP3/

If this is what you are asking about, it is Symantec security products like Norton AV, NIS, & Norton 360 that uses SymProtect feature. Symantec already posted the tool to fix it HERE.
