CPU/Ram: 2.0Ghz/256Mb

How can I lower my CPU speed when my laptop is running on battery. It might save some battery life i hope. But i really dont want to run at 2.0Ghz when on battery.
Any Ideas

some laptops will do this for you automatically as long as its enabled in bios

if you have the manual it may be worth a look
It may be enabled already if its supported
