About 2 weeks ago the volume on all three of my desktop computers quite working. They will work if I use powered speakrs, but not the regular speakers I was using. I tried system restore, updating drivers and removing and reinstalling. All the sound setups are different. On is Soundmax digital which said it works with only powered speakers, but worked for three years just fine with out them. One is a sound blaster card and the other is creative sound on the motherboard. any one have an idea?

Are you sure the speakers you were using were not powered and the batteries just went dead? Some speakers use batteries and do not have a "status light" so you can't tell they are powered.
The chances of three computers having the same sound issue is pretty remote. I would suspect the speakers.

I am sure they are not powered they are the speakers shipped with the computer. The second set of speakers are built into the monitor and were working just fine 2 weeks ago.
