You should have more RAM memory. Add at least 256 more.
That is beside the point.

Go into Windows Safe-Mode to try to run this ---

Description of the Disk Cleanup Tool in Windows XP

Clean out as much as you can.
Also you can do the following ----
Another thing I notice that is taking up space is
EVENT VIEWER logs. Go into Event Viewer then right click
each catagory (System, Security, and Application),
then click "Clear all events".
When Prompted to Save, do not save.
---------------------
Also check all the files in
C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch
The Prefetch folder is quite large.
I have deleted all files there, even
Layout.ini, at times without problems.
It will rebuild itself over time.

Also go into the Windows folder and delete all the uninstall folders; you don't need them.

Add a second drive, either internal or external. Move some of your files (like video, music, pictures, etc) to the second drive.

While you are at it, back them up to DVDs.

In addition to response 3(HDDs are fairly cheap these days), you could disable system restore, or at least keep the percentage of the HDD used for restore points low.

One other item to try. Download and run CCleaner slim. It does many of the same things as the Microsoft Disk Cleanup Tool except it does a better job of it.

You do need more memory too, for sure. Go to My computer and see what the total hard drive space is and how much is still available. Post the numbers back here. Get CCleaner slim at the link below.
