Low disk space?

This problem started 2 nite ago, I went to open a program that I use basically every day. A box popped up and told me that I only have 17 megebytes of free disk space left, do you want to continue? I recently installed a new 40 gig hard drive and currently only have 5.25 gigs of info installed on the pc. I did a system clean and got the same message except it said that I now have 19 megabytes left. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.

is the entire drive partitioned? Do you have hibernation active? Did you allow system restore to use more disk space than the default?

go to "My Computer" icon and click to see the all drives on how many space used and free. tell us what they are. also what type of program you're using that have this pop-up warning. sometimes it maybe the software.
