my c: drive doesnt have free space anymore, and i have trouble installing things that require temp file space . . .i tried to install a game with installshield wizard and it says " there is not enough space to initialize the setup.plz free up atleast *****kb on your c :drive b4 u run the setup" .is it possible to change the default drive to some other drive with more space . .?? same problem when installing installshield xpress edition . .plz help !i have 120 gb hdd. .

If you right click on C:\ in Windows Explorer then properties what does it say. How much free space have you got ?
120 GB is quite big so I'd be surprised if you had run out of space.
Also D/L Sequoiaview from here:
http://www.win.tue.nl/sequoiaview/
It will give you a graphical view of your HD so you can see instantly where all the space has gone.

When you install programs, you should have the option on where to install it. It's normally set up to install in c:\program files\????, but that can be changed. I install almost all of my programs on a separate drive.

hugh , i have free space in my other partitions ,d: e: ..the problem is in c:drive ,free space is zero .. .!!whenever i use installshield wizard to install something error message shows up..(error 5006)..

The installer might not have enough free space to work.
Move whatever data you can from the C: drive to one of the other drives.
You could also empty the recycle bin and delete everything in the c:\windows\temp folder. That might free up a lot of disk space.Do yourself a favor BACKUP!

i have already cleaned temp, prefetch and i was only able to free 6 mb !!. . is there anyway to change the temp directory to some other partitions?? thanks 4 ur reply ham30.

I leaned something new.
I found the following procedure to move the 'Temp' folder at 'http://www.aumha.org/a/parts.php' in the middle of the page:In Windows XP the procedure is different. Go to System Properties (Win+Pause, or Control Panel | System, or right-click My Computer and click Properties), click Advanced, click Environment Variables, and edit the locations you want for Temp and Tmp in the top “User Variables” box (for your individual profile) and in the bottom “System Variables” box (which controls system-wide settings). You must be logged in as an administrator to change system variables such as Temp and Tmp.
Tweakui will let you move some other system folders. Open the 'My Computer' tab. It's a free download, if you don't have it.

Well, with respect, it might have been useful to have said you had partitions.
If you say "i have 120gb hdd" then it's not unreasonable to assume it's one partition of 120gb.
So lets start again shall we: How big is your C:\ and did you run Sequoiaview?
If your machine is choking up like this simply pointing your temp file to another partition is not going to help much. You'll need to either clean up C:\ or resize it.

thanks a lot ham30, sory about that Hugh Rhynal my mistake ..i solved the problem, i "downloaded" PM8, did a resize of my e: drive and distributed the free space to c:drive. . .
thanks a lot 4 ur replies . .
