Lovgate Virus

About three days ago, the Norton Antivirus window started popping up saying that the W32.HLLW.Lovgate.G@mm was found on my system in the C:\WINNT\System32\spool\PRINTERS\000xx.spl. (Where xx is a different number every time.) This window has now been popping up almost every hour since then. I have run my Norton's Virus scan and a few other programs (Stinger, Virex, HouseCall, SpyBot, and HijackThis) to try and find the virus and hopefully remove it. No viruses were found. I got the fixlgate.exe from Norton, and the virus was not found. I have even tried deleting the folder and putting in a new folder, the virus just keeps popping up. I have a firewall and constant scanning on my computer. The only downside is that I am on a college network. If anyone has suggestions on how to remove this annoyance, they would be most helpful. Thanks.

Did you turn off system restore and then try to erradicate the virus. I'll bet that's were it is hiding out and reinfecting you system. You could also try trojan hunter, or BSODemon. Both can be found by doing a simple quick search on Google.com
Good Luck.

I turned off system restore and ran Trojan Hunter and Nortons. They did not find anything. I could not find BSODemon on Google. I turned system restore back on and the virus popped up again. I will try it again, this time doing a whole system scan rather than just a folder scan with restore off.

I ran two intensive scans, one with my nortons and one with the online norton scanner. Nothing was found. During the local disc scan, the virus alert popped up, but the main scanner did not pick up any virus. I am now wondering if it is possible to get virus messages from networked computers. Maybe the virus is not on my computer, but on someone elses? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Summary: You probably have the LOVGATE virus. EXPLORE.EXE is certainly one of the files that is generated by the BACKDOOR trojan that accompanies LOVGATE. Download Mcafee's STINGER from http://vil.nai.com/vil/...
