Don't take this the wrong way but how do you loose your password or forget it? You are not the first to ask this question and I know I am not giving you the answer you want but I just don't understand how one can forget something that is very important to remember.

Laters,

what KTTD is trying to say: "we could tell you, but then we have to shoot you" :))

just format your xp partition w/o touching your win98 and reinstall xp

Try booting into safemode > use administrater account (assuming you've not forgotten THAT password) and simply change the password u use to login.

if you cant do that your pretty muchly SOL.. you could always reinstall XP over itsself and see if that does any good

you can still possibly get in.
1st, if you did not use ntfs, boot to 98, go to your xp winrootdir/system32/config dir. there is a file there called SAM, delete it, then reboot, when you reboot, your default id should be administrator with no password. of course if you used ntfs, then you can access this drive from a fat boot. now you would need to go to sysinterals and get something that boots to ntfs with read/write capabilities. then you do the same thing, delete the SAM file from winroot/system32/config.

wah-la, your back in as administrator with no password, and of course no other ids

To hack xp is a easy task but you should know something about regedit.
you also get few softwares for retriving the admin password for xp. I cannot tell you more about it.

Deleteing the SAM file doesn't work. When the computer reboots, it does into safe mode and immediately reboots. Good thing I copied that SAM file to diskette first. Whew.

well, I've a similar problem that happened today:
the pos won't boot because it said the SAM file was corrupted; I boot off the cd, go in the recovery console, rename the SAM file and now, it won't boot in normal more, it won't boot in safe mode, I can't access the recovery console anymore because it asks for the administrator password which it doesn't accept anymore...

any idea before I throw the machine out of the window ?
