Some of my audio output has stopped working :-( (Windows sounds etc)
I have noticed that in "control panel/sounds and audio devices" that there is no sound card set under the options "Midi music Playback" or "Default Device" under voice.
If I select a sound card for these options and then apply/ok nothing happens! The changes do not take effect. If you go back the settings have reverted to none!
This is really frustrating I have even tired a different sound card (Latest Drivers)in my system with the same results!

Lots of CPU and RAM and that "Yes" model makes this an easy one to figure out.

Try Kelly's Corner and do a find for 'sounds'. There are a few entries that might get you going again.

Some time ago I lost all Windows sounds. It turned out it was caused by a particular installation of Nero. Luckily a System Restore got them back again.
One thing you could also try is to create another user account and log in as that one and see if you have your sounds. The problem might be user related and creating a new account might get you going again.
