Ok, i have an ECS K7S5A Motherboard, my COMP case has an output and mic hookup in the front, so i setup the cables on my mobo so that i could get sound through the front of the case. I noticed i lost sound in the back of the case. Today i unhooked the cables, disabling the front audio of my case. I was hoping that it would default back to the back of my comp case, just like a normal computer would have it set up, but i plug my speakers into the output sound jack (green one), and i get nothing at all. I re-installed me C-Media 97' Driver, no luck, i looked everywhere in my control panel, with no luck.

Anyone know of a way i can fix this problem?
Maybe a Clean Bios?

As your message is not exactly clear as to what you did first, if you lost sound in the back panel to begin with, your internal sound card may have gone kaput. Maybe.

If this is the case, merely re-directing the sound to the front panel isn't going to fix a kaput internal sound device in the mb.

Re-installing the device driver is not going to fix a bad internal sound device either...all the more reason why after re-installing the driver, you get nothing.

Also, make sure you have the internal sound device set to ENABLED in BIOS. Just check it and make sure, because if for some reason the device is disabled in BIOS, re-installing the driver will not change things.

If on the other hand, your device was working properly to begin with...then...

I have installed some motherboards, noteably, ASUS...and this may be true for your mb...if you re-direct the sound to the front panel of the computer box, you may have to set a dip switch or jumper on the motherboard to enable it (to re-direct sound to the front control panel). Consult your mb manual and see if you have to set a jumper on the motherboard. If this is so, just re-doing the connectors to the front panel will not do anything. You have to set the jumper manually on the mb.

If you don't like this arrangement and want to go back to the back panel again, don't forget to re-set the jumper to re-direct the sound back to the back panel port...

You should have also checked to see in device manager FIRST if you had sound (if something had not gone haywire with XP)...
by going control panel--->>>sounds, speach.
etc.

Hope this might help.

Hmm, thanks for the help i'll try it out, the only jumpers my MB has are the ones to clear the CMOS, and i cleared the CMOS and reset the bios and it didn't help, you were right, re-installing the driver didn't do anything, i thoroughly went through the control panel to see if anything was incorrect and it appeared to be alright. I think that it's either XP or my MB. How could i fix something on my MOBO so that it'll default the sound back to the back of the case?

No No No
c-media is BAD about if you unplug the speakers while they are powered up it dumps the card out. Shut down the system then remove the card and power up. Then again shut down and reinstall the card. On my biostar running xp home it's like nothing ever went wrong. The card starts working again. Go fig.
