Hi,
I'm running on WinXP, Nvidia MX440 SE and recently I have this problem. My LCD screen would flash once or twice periodically and the next thing I know, my computer hangs. Once I reboot, I would find my display setting to be at 800 by 600 pixel, the color quality would be 4 bit.

Under Device Manager, my display adapter would show and yellow exclaimation mark. "Code 10 Error"

I've tried installed the driver from Nvidia website, but the problem does not go away.

I'm not sure what problem am I facing. How do I solve this problem?

Thanks people..

What I would do:
1°/uninstall nvidia drivers from control panel's add/remove
2°/run driver cleaner
( http://www.drivercleaner.net/ ) under safe mode to clean away the remaining sheet
3°/re-install your prefered drivers
4°/reboot

Asus P5WDHDeluxe
Intel Core 2 Duo E6700
2GB DDR2 Twin2X 800MHz
nVidia GeForce 7900 GTX

Hey,

Is that the old Geforce 4 series? if it is then there isn't much point in asking nvidia for help as they will probally say they aren't offering support for your product anymore and the suggest you buy a geforce 7950 gtx lol.

But seriously... if thats the gf4 then i suggest you get a new card...7600gt is the sweet spot atm so try it. Otherwise maybe corrupt drivers? or the drivers you have are for the newer nvidia cards and yours isn't supported anymore. Try rolling back to an older driver that supports the MX440 SE.

Other than that i'm clueless

good luck

Thanks guys..

I was about to switch on my PC when I found that it went back to normal again.

Nevertheless, I will try the LeBabouin's method.

I agree with shadow.1991 that it's about time I change a new card. Guess it's the card's way of saying "change me now!"

Thanks for the advice again guys.
Really appreciate it..

IF you're not into gaming, there's probably no need for a new card. And FYI, the latest nVidia ForceWare release (v.91.47) DOES support the MX440SE. Follow LeBabouin's instructions....

Microsoft's explanation:

"This device is either not present, not working properly, or does not have all the drivers installed. (Code 10)

Try upgrading the device drivers for this device. "

It could also be your LCD monitor is defective. If you can try another monitor for a while, do that. If there is no problem with another monitor....
flickering I can see as being caused by a faulty voltage inverter.
For some info about replacing a voltage inverter, see response 5 in this:
http://www.computing.net/hardware/w...

It is extremely unlikely there is anything wrong with your video card unless it has been damaged by something such as a defective PS or a voltage surge or spike and your computer isn't protected from that, but you could check to make sure the card is fully seated in it's slot - turn off the power to the case, open the case, make sure the video card is parallel to the mboard and fully to the bottom of it's slot.
Look in your bios Setup pages at the current voltages to make sure +3.3, +5, and +12 volts are within 10% of their nominal values, and that the PS fan is spinning okay when the computer is on.
