Specs: Windows xp
Someone please read and help. I already tried calling windows xp customer support, but they could not help me at all. I have lost my windows xp product key, and I was going to use a program to search my pc for the product key, but I can't get into my computer at all. I have tried f-10 but nothing is working and I can't get past the windows xp install screen. Is there any way to get into my computer to download the product key finder? If not I will have to find a way to get a new tower, which I have no money for at the moment. Someone please HELP!

If you are getting the XP install screen then it sounds as if XP is not installed. In that case you can't recover the product key. I'm afraid that you will need to purchase a new copy of XP or, better still, take the chance to upgrade to a newer OS. If money is a problem you could always try one of the free OSs like Linux.

In any case, you don't need to purchase a new computer, just new software. Be sure, in future, to keep a careful note of Product Keys, Serial Numbers and the like. That is, in essence, what you are paying for (especially true now that much software is purchased as a digital download).

If you should consider a later Windows operating system then let us know the spec for you computer - it might not be powerful enough.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Are you saying WinXP was installed on that computer but is now not working properly?

If that is the case then try booting without the CD and continously tap F8 at start up. Choose to start in Safe Mode with networking. If you then get into WinXP, download and run Magical Jellybean from the link below. That program should allow you to recover your key.

Is the install screen you mention asking for the installation key?

Are you booting to your WinXP CD?

Here's a thought: Have you checked your computer for a sticker that has the product key on it?
