i am trying to do a clean install xp pro, because the computer will not boot, will not go into safe mod, just keeps repeating the cycle of saying it was shut down to avoid a problem............but no blue screen.

i have the genuine dell disk, and it begins to install, but when it reaches the section when you need to click the mouse on options, the mouse does not work. how can i get it working otherwise i cannot install the program?

If you are using a PS2 plug mouse, try another one. If you are using a USB mouse, make sure that it is plugged directly into one of the rear USB plugs DIRECTLY ON THE MOTHERBOARD. ALL other USB ports will NOT work at this stage. Front USB ports, USB ports on an expansion card, USB ports on your keyboard or monitor, and USB hubs will not work at this stage, and really should not be used for mouse and keyboard. If you are using a wireless USB mouse, borrow a hardwired mouse until you have windows installed and the wireless drivers installed. If USB does not work for you, borrow (or buy) a PS2 mouse or get a USB/PS2 adapter.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
If all else fails, read instructions.
