I've just re-installed WIN XP after a fault and my 200GB hard drive space has been whittled down to 4.4GB. On re-installing I was given the option of either using FAT32 or NTFS . I used the NTFS, can you help, should I have re-installed using the FAT 32 system and is that the way to get all my hard-drive space back?

It appears you didn't partition & format the drive correctly. Even so, you won't get the full 200GB until you install SP1 or SP2, unless you have a newer XP CD that has the SP already incorporated into it.
If you partition & format using the XP CD, you MUST use NTFS on partitions 32GB in size or larger. Below that, you can use either FAT32 or NTFS.
